A very late spring

Hepaticaapr07Spring is coming very slowly this year. Saturday was opening day at Garden in the Woods, but there was very little in bloom. Last year at this time we had bloodroot, spicebush, and dirca, but this year the only thing in bloom (other than the skunk cabbage) appeared to be the hepatica. It's predicted to stay cold for the next few days, so it's not clear there will be much more showing for the Earth Day celebration this coming weekend.

In my home garden, the forsythia, which usually blooms around April 1, is still not showing up.

I hate when this happens because you know how it will be. It will suddenly get very warm and everything will bloom at once. Which will be glorious, but it will all be over much too quickly.

For me it's nice to see a few Hepaticas, since ours (in Alabama) have been long gone!
