Last Saturday I took a field trip with friends to Logee's Greenhouse, about an hour's drive from Boston in the "quiet corner" of Connecticut. Logee's specializes in tropical houseplants, and has a warren of greenhouses packed with plants that you can wander through. In among the tiny potted plants for sale are many huge plants, some of them planted right in the ground, that have been growing there for decades. (In fact, some of the plants are over a century old, as the company was started in 1892.) The air is fragrant with citrus blossoms and jasmine. It's really a great place to visit in the middle of winter.
I escaped fairly lightly, buying only a yellow clivia and an Amazon lily. These are both plants I've grown before, so I think I have a fairly good chance of keeping them alive.
